Alexander McQueen AW 2018

There has been a dearth of butterfly inspired fashion of late, but this was remedied last week when Alexander McQueen premiered their very sophisticated Autumn/Winter 2018 collection in Paris. We should have known something was afoot when they released the kaleidoscopic butterfly wing teasers above on their Instagram account in the days leading up to the catwalk show. Said show took place at Carreau du Temple - a covered market in the Marais district of Paris. Fashionistas fortunate enough to be invited were greeted with a free piece of McQueen designer knitwear on their seats. Lucky them!

The overriding theme was Metamorphosis from the eponymous Kafka novel, and featured large kaleidoscopic exploded butterfly wing and Goliath beetle marking prints, and embroidery on some beautifully tailored garments. The collection also featured tulle skirts heavily embellished with colourful, metallic beetles. It's a very strong collection which gives you hope for the future of the label. The ultimate McQueen butterfly dress though, can be seen here. Press play to see video of the full AW18 collection below.
