I came across the display of this series of drawings on a long overdue revisit to the Musée d'Art Moderne on a recent trip to Paris. The drawings are a result of circumstances that occurred when the artist went into lockdown with the rest of France on 17th March 2020. Alone at home with no access to his studio or assistants the artist was forced to assess his practice and return to the most immediate of mediums - drawing - which he practiced on a daily basis. Veilhans' dominant use of a ruler, compass, felt tip pens and geometrical pointers on sheets of A3 paper resulted in 300 drawings from this period. The results are an exercise in self-reflection, almost like a diary of that anxious, uncertain period of isolation documenting the upheaval of his/our habits. The artist has generously donated a suite of nine of the drawings to the Musée d'Art Moderne.
