Self-Control, 2019
So happy to have caught this show before it closed yesterday. France-Lise McGurn's vibrant, figurative paintings are full of colour and life, bursting out of the confines of their canvases and bleeding onto the gallery walls in this immersive exhibition. There is an assured sense of draughtsmanship, but also a lightness of touch, and fluidity reminiscent of Matisse in these paintings, and equally a stylised sensuality reminiscent of the oeuvre of Allen Jones. These works were a real boost to the spirit on a grey, wintry London day.
